On the morning your tour is scheduled to begin, and at the time which will have been confirmed with you, your guide will meet you at the port exit gate holding a placard with your name on it. Once you have met each other you will then begin the journey to Cairo, with a brief stop along the way.
When you arrive in Cairo you will drive directly to the ancient Giza necropolis. On arrival at the site your tour will commence with a visit to each of the three famous pyramids: the Pyramid of Cheops, the Pyramid of Chephren, and the Pyramid of Mykerinus. You will have ample time to take plenty of magnificent photographs while your guide tells you all about the fascinating history of these iconic structures. You will also visit the Valley Temple which belonged to Pharaoh Chephren.
After spending some time at the pyramids, you will then walk to the Great Sphinx. It is not a great distance, but if you would rather not walk, there are camel rides available from the pyramids to the Sphinx. However the cost of a camel ride is not included in the price of our day tour to Cairo from Alexandria port.
Following your tour of the necropolis, you will then be taken to good quality local restaurant to enjoy some lunch. After you have finished enjoying your meal you will then make your way to the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, which is also known simply as the Egyptian Museum.
This world famous museum is home to more than 120,000 artifacts and relics that represent the entire Pharaonic period and showcases a period of roughly 5,000 years of Egyptian history. There is also a permanent exhibit which is dedicated to King Tutankhamun where visitors can view some of the artifacts and treasures that were recovered from his tomb in the Valley of Kings in Luxor. However, most of the original exhibit has recently been moved to the new Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
Tutankhamun’s tomb is one of only a few tombs in the Valley of the Kings that weren’t looted in antiquity. It had remained locked and sealed for 3,500 years before being discovered and excavated in the 1920s by Howard Carter, a British archaeologist.
If there is enough time left after your visit to the museum you will then be taken to visit the much loved Khan el Khalili Bazaar, which is one of the biggest and oldest bazaars in the entire Middle East text back to the late 14th century. The bazaar is renowned for its many meandering pathways and treasure-filled alleys. It is a great place to shop for some souvenirs to remind you of your trip to Cairo.
After spending some time at the bazaar, it will then be time to begin the drive back to Alexandria. On arrival in Alexandria, you will be driven directly to Alexandria Port where you will be dropped off at the entrance gate. Your Cairo day trip from Alexandria Port has now come to an end, but you can be sure that it will have been a day which you will cherish forever.
