David Bloch Gallery – A Place of Contemporary Fine Arts
If you browse through any list of tourist attractions in Marrakech, you will soon discover that this amazing city has many different museums that display some fantastic works of art, but you can be sure that none of them can be compared to the David Bloch Gallery. Of course, one could argue that the David Bloch Gallery is not really a museum, but instead, it is an art gallery. Still, the David Bloch Gallery is also nothing like your average sort of art gallery either. You can visit this charming gallery with any one of our epic Egypt and Morocco Tours.
Rather than having and displaying a large permanent collection, the David Bloch Gallery hosts rolling exhibitions. In other words, it will host a particular exhibition for a set period of time, and then that exhibition will be taken down in order to make way for the next exhibition.
The gallery routinely hosts singular and group exhibitions which showcase the work of known artists, but it also serves as a place where emerging artists can exhibit their work. This can be a magnificent opportunity for young artists who are desperately trying to gain exposure.
Despite being one of the lesser-know Marrakech tourist attractions, the gallery is still very popular among locals and tourists alike. Being able to showcase your work at this venue can have far reaching impact for a budding young artist.
Another great thing about the David Bloch Gallery is that it is not reserved only for local artists. Instead, the gallery welcomes artists from both sides of the Mediterranean.
In short, it is a place where artists can go in order to showcase new artistic expressions, including sculptures, optical art, paintings, and even forms or street art such as graffiti.
As many people would agree, the David Bloch Gallery is one of those types of places you can visit again and again. It is also a great place for people who visit Marrakech regularly because they are likely to see a new exhibition every time they return.
A Brief History and Overview
The David Bloch Gallery is located right in the heart of Marrakech’s Gueliz district, an area which in itself is most definitely worth a visit. The gallery opened in 2010 for the sole purpose of showcasing contemporary works of art created by both established artists and new up and coming artists.
Located at 8 bis Rue des Vieux Marrakchis, Marrakesh, 40000, Morocco, the David Bloch Gallery is open daily from 10h30 to 13h30 and again from 15h30 to 19h30 except on Sundays and Monday mornings.
Different people have different tastes, and since the David Bloch Gallery is dedicated entirely to the showcasing and dissemination of contemporary art and emerging talent, it is likely that this museum won’t appeal to everyone.
It is by no means one of the best tourist attractions in Morocco, but if you are passionate about contemporary art, and new novel artistic expressions, then we do certainly recommend a visit, and particularly if you are going to be visiting the Gueliz district during your stay in Marrakech.
