Ski Dubai – A Brief Overview

Ski Dubai, exterior

Ski Dubai (exterior view) is part of the Mall of the Emirates.

Ski Dubai is essentially a part of the Mall of the Emirates, one of the world’s largest shopping malls. Both the ski resort and the mall are owned and operated by a company called the Majid Al Futtaim Group. The company also owns numerous other malls, retail establishments, and entertainment venues throughout the Middle East, as well as in North Africa.

Ski Dubai officially opened in 2005. The resort covers an area of 22,500 square meters, and features an indoor mountain which is roughly 85 meters in height.

A Peek Inside Dubai’s Magical Indoor Ski Resort

The indoor mountain at Ski Dubai has 5 different slopes, with each offering a different level of steepness and difficulty. There is also a thrilling 400-meter-long Black Diamond run. Coincidentally, Ski Dubai was the first indoor ski resort in the world to feature a Black Diamond run. As a general rule, Black Diamond runs are typically among the most challenging slopes at ski resorts. They are mostly steep runs, and often un-groomed. The one at Ski Dubai is certainly not as challenging as some of the runs you will find on the mountains in places like Austria, but it is still challenging, nonetheless. There are also numerous kickers, rails and boxes along the way, all of which are frequently replaced and re-positioned.

Depending on which slopes you visit, you are taken to the summit either by means of a tow-lift or a quad-lift. Use of equipment such as skis, snowboards, snowboard boots and etc. is included in the price of the admission ticket. Those who would prefer to buy their own equipment can do so at a number of nearby shops.

The admission ticket at Ski Dubai is essentially an all-inclusive ticket, which basically means that you are free to enjoy yourself as you wish without having to pay any other fees once you are inside. However, things like food, snacks and beverages are not included. Skiing lessons and snowboarding lessons are available from qualified instructors, but lessons are not included in the entrance fee.

If you are planning on booking one of our Dubai and Egypt vacation packages, we will be happy to amend your preferred tour itinerary if you would like to spend a day on the slopes at Ski Dubai.

Ski Dubai – So Much More than a Ski Resort

If you have no desire to ski or snowboard, there is still plenty of fun to be had. In addition to the slopes, Ski Dubai also has a huge 3000-square-meter snow park where visitors can enjoy sled and toboggan runs, of even an exhilarating body slide. There are also a few giant snowballs, climbing towers, and an amazing ice cave within the Snow Park area at Ski Dubai.

And, just when you think you have seen it all, don’t be surprised if you suddenly see a bunch of penguins strolling about. Yes, Ski Dubai has penguins, and to make your time there even more special, the penguins are allowed out of their enclosure several times each day. For an additional fee, you can also book a special Penguin Experience which makes it possible for you to actually interact with the penguins.

Regardless of how young or how old you are, and regardless of whether you can ski or not, Ski Dubai is a great place to spend a day having fun out of the sun.
