How to Travel From Egypt to Jordan
Many people who visit Egypt also choose to visit Jordan during their trip, even if only for a few days. If you are thinking about doing the same thing, you may be wondering how to get from Egypt to Jordan, so in this post we are going to look at your various options.
To begin with, it’s all depends on your budget and on where about in Egypt you will be setting out from.
Fly from Egypt to Jordan
Most people who choose to visit both of these countries in a single vacation, simply fly from Cairo International Airport in Egypt to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman. This is undoubtedly the most convenient option, considering that these two cities are linked by frequent daily flights.
Direct flights between Cairo International Airport and Queen Alia International Airport in Amman typically take about 2 hours and 15 min. One can also fly from Cairo to Aqaba Airport and then take a bus or a taxi to Amman. A direct flight from Cairo International Airport to Aqaba Airport in Jordan takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Can you fly to Jordan from other cities in Egypt? Yes, you can fly to Queen Alia International Airport in Amman from Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Aswan, Luxor, and Borg El Arab Airport. Bear in mind, however, that the number of direct flights between these cities and Amman are not always available, meaning that you will most likely have to fly via Cairo international Airport.
Train and Ferry from Egypt to Jordan
How to travel from Egypt to Jordan by train? If you are a train travel enthusiast, you will be pleased to know that there are trains linking nearly all of Egypt’s major cities. There is no train crossing that links Egypt and Jordan though. If you are going to be setting out from Cairo, your best bet would be to take a train to Borg El Arab and then a bus to Nuweiba so that you can catch the ferry across to Aqaba in Jordan.
As of the time of writing, they were two trains a day from Cairo to Borg El Arab, a journey which takes approximately 4 hours and 15 minutes. There is no need to worry about the cost because train travel in Egypt is ridiculously cheap.
If you are going to be traveling from one of Egypt’s southern cities, you will first need to take the train to Cairo. In this case, we would recommend taking the overnight sleeper train.
Once you get to Cairo, you will then need to board a different train to Borg El Arab and then jump on a bus or take a taxi to Nuweiba for the ferry to Aqaba.
Bus and Ferry from Egypt to Jordan
If you are wondering how to travel from Egypt to Jordan on a budget, then a bus and ferry combination would be your best bet. If you’re going to be traveling from Cairo or Alexandria, your first step would be to take the bus to Nuweiba so that you can get the ferry across to Aqaba in Jordan.
If you are going to be setting out from one of Egypt’s popular coastal resorts, such as Sharm El Sheikh, then you can simply take the bus to Taba and then catch a ferry from Taba to Aqaba.
Once you reach Aqaba, you will then need to take a bus or a taxi to your final destination in Jordan. Traveling from Cairo in Egypt to Amman in Jordan by bus and ferry typically takes about 11 hours, but you should bank on the journey taking around 13 hours if you take waiting times and rest stops into account.
Visiting Petra Archaeological Park
The Petra Archaeological Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major attraction. It is by far and away Jordan’s premiere tourist attraction. If you arrive in Jordan via the ferry from Nuweiba, and you only want to see the Petra Archaeological Park before making your way back to Egypt or before flying back home, then there is no need for you to travel on to Amman first.
Instead, you can simply take a bus or a taxi from Aqaba to Wadi Musa which is the gateway town for the Petra Archaeological Park.
Air Travel vs. Road and Ferry Travel
If convenience and comfort rank high on your agenda, then flying from Egypt to Jordan would certainly be your best option. On the other hand, if you are looking to save some money, or you would prefer a more immersive travel experience, then traveling from Egypt to Jordan by road and ferry or rail and ferry would be your best bet.
