Red Sea Egypt Vacations – A Diver’s Paradise
To begin, when most people think of scuba diving, they think of the Caribbean and other tropical locales. When they think of Egypt, they think of the Giza Pyramid complex, desert sands and the country’s many historic sites that line the banks of the Nile River in Upper Egypt. However, besides the country’s countless historic sites and its amazing history, Egypt’s Red Sea coatline is where you will find some of the most amazing snorkeling and scuba diving sites in the world.
From gorgeous brightly colored coral reefs to exotic fish and plant-life, you won’t be disappointed with Egypt vacation packages that include snorkeling or diving in the Red Sea at places like Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, and Marsa Alam. Sharm El Sheikh has grown to become a lively city with a vibrant culture of its own, while Hurghada is considerably more laid back, and Marsa Alam even more so.

Even if you are not an experienced diver, your Egypt vacation can include a PADI Open Water certification course (3-4 days at most resort dive centres) or a PADI Discover Scuba Diving introduction (a 2-hour briefing followed by supervised dives) so you can experience the Red Sea underwater on your first visit. Both novice and veteran divers from around the world enjoy the diving opportunities and warm-water conditions across Egypt’s Red Sea coast.
In the three places mentioned above, you’ll find miles of amazing hotels, spectacular all inclusive resorts, gorgeous beaches and some of the clearest, most beautiful water in the entire world. Divers can look forward to spotting lionfish, Spanish dancer nudibranch, stingrays, and Hurghada stars, as well as all kinds of other undersea wildlife.

And, when you’re not diving, when you spend time on your Egypt vacations in Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada, you can enjoy vibrant nightlife, excellent restaurants, and even camel rides with Bedouins in the desert, too. All inclusive Egypt vacation packages that include Hurghada or Sharm are full of fun and adventure, as well as culture and amazing dining.
Both places are extremely popular among visitors from both Europe and America, and currently prices are very affordable. For the ultimate experience, consider booking an Cairo, Nile Cruise and Red Sea Package that includes Cairo, the Pyramids, a 4-night Luxor-Aswan cruise, and a few days on the Red Sea coast at either Hurghada or Sharm El Sheikh. This will allow you to enjoy private guided tours in Cairo during which you will visit places like the Pyramids of Giza, the Egyptian Museum and the bustling Khan el Khalili Bazaar before heading to Aswan or Luxor for a 5-Star cruise on the Nile River, after which you will get to spend a few days on Egypt’s beautiful Red Sea coast.

Historical Trips to Egypt
Visit Valley Of The Kings
The Valley of the Kings is located in Upper Egypt, on the west bank of the Nile River near modern day Luxor. In terms of visitor numbers, this site is second only to the majestic Pyramids of Giza in Cairo. When you visit Biban El Moluk (the Valley of the Kings), you’ll see some of the most impressive ancient tombs in all of the world. Wear a good pair of walking shoes for Egypt vacation packages that include the Valley of the Kings, though, because you’ll be given the opportunity not just to lay eyes on the exteriors of these impressive tombs, but you will also to be able to enter and explore some of them.

Perhaps the most famous tomb found here is Tutankhamen’s, which was a great find of the 20th century, as it was not discovered until the 1920s when it was unearthed fully intact. However, you’ll find it interesting as you walk through these ancient burial places, to discover that Tutankhamen was not the wealthiest of pharaohs. You may be surprised to find some of the lesser known of these kings were also some of the wealthiest with some of the largest tombs.
Of course, if you want to see the jewels and treasures that Tutankhamen and other pharaohs were buried with, you won’t find them in the Valley of the Kings. These relics are on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, which is itself one of the top tourist attractions in Egypt.

The Valley of Kings can be visited as part of a day trip from Cairo. A one-day Luxor tour will typically also include a visit to other ancient sites in the area, including Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Hatshepsut Temple, and the Colossi of Memnon. Be aware that with a one-day Luxor tour, you will be following quite a rushed schedule. If you have the time, and if your finances allow for it, We would highly recommend booking and Egypt tour package that includes a Nile cruise since all good Nile cruises include a guided Luxor tour.
See the Temples of Karnak
According to BBC’s Michael Wood, “Karnak is like a theme park of ancient Egyptian religion – in which every god and goddess of that civilization was represented over a period of about 2,000 years.” The temples and other structures here are gathered on the site of the ancient city of Thebes in a space that covers over 200 hectares (494 acres), making Karnak the largest religious building complex ever constructed.
Here you’ll find an incredible diorama of ancient history, including all manners of temples, obelisks, kiosks, and sanctuaries dedicated exclusively to the worship of gods and goddesses.

At Karnak, you’ll see the Great Temple of Amun and its Hypostyle Hall, and there are multiple Light and Sound performances eachevening to bring these amazing pieces of history to life right before your eyes, giving Egypt vacation packages even more appeal. Not surprisingly, a visit to Karnak Temple is included in all of our existing Egypt Nile Cruise and Stays.
Experience the Luxor Temple
Speaking of ancient Thebes, this site is now the home of the city of Luxor, where you can find even more breathtaking ancient attractions than just the temples at Karnak. In the very center of the city, for example, you’ll find the Temple of Luxor.
Built by Amenhotep III around 1380 BC and expanded by Ramses II around 1250 BC, the Temple of Luxor was erected to house celebrations of the annual Opet Festival, which celebrated the rejuvenation of kingship. As years passed, the rulers who followed these two continued building onto the impressive structure, and its function turned to a place of worship for Christians and then later for Muslims. You can still see the beautiful mosque that was built inside the temple today.
Daytime visits to the Temple of Luxor during Egypt vacation packages are impressive enough. However, to get the most out of the view, take a walk to this beautiful structure around sunset, as it is especially beautifully illuminated at night, making this a popular time to visit the complex.

Luxor Temple is another ancient monument which features in most of our all-inclusive vacations and in every Nile River cruise offered on our website.
See El-Amarna
Located between Luxor and the Nile River delta is an artifact from one of Egyptian history’s greatest scandals. Many books and movies have been created about the famed Nefertiti and her husband Akhenaten, the “heretic” pharaoh. In potentially the very first attempt at monotheism in history, Akhenaten broke away from worshipping the traditional Egyptian gods and goddesses when he built the new capital and started a new form of worship.

To start anew and commune with their new god Aten (the sun, who replaced Amun), Akhenaten and Nefertiti moved to El-Amarna, their sanctuary of new religious dreams. In just a few years, though, both were dead, and worship turned back to the old gods.
The abandoned royal tombs of El-Amarna still stand in the eastern water channels, and the entire site is both beautiful and lonely. If you’ve ever been caught up with the story of the fabled beauty of Nefertiti and her heretic husband, El-Amarna is a beautiful place to visit to see where the tales you’ve heard and read actually occurred. This ancient gem is best visited by way of a half day trip from Luxor, one of the most interesting Egyptian cities.
Stroll Through the Grand Egyptian Museum
Of course, most Egypt vacation packages include time in Cairo to see the very best Cairo tourist attractions, including the Pyramids of Giza, the Khan El-Khalili bazaar, and the Grand Egyptian Museum. The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) opened fully in 2024 and covers more than 5,000 years of Egyptian history with over 100,000 artifacts displayed across purpose-built galleries near the Giza plateau. Highlights include the complete Tutankhamun burial collection of more than 5,000 items displayed together for the first time since 1922, and the relocated Solar Boat of Khufu in its dedicated gallery.

With over 100,000 artifacts, it is easy to understand why the Grand Egyptian Museum is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Cairo
Including a trip to the Grand Egyptian Museum is a great way to get a better feel for Egyptian history and culture before continuing with the rest of your plans for your Egyptian vacation. In fact, if you are at all interested in history, you should always plan to visit this museum along with historical sites on your Egypt vacation packages. With so much history and so many artifacts to peruse, it could take several vacations to Egypt to get a thorough look at everything in the museum.
Spending two or three days in Cairo before heading off to one of the country’s other popular tourist destinations, will allow you to not only enjoy the city’s vibrant culture, but it will also give you time to visit the city’s most famous tourist attractions, including the Grand Egyptian Museum.
Take a Felucca Ride on the River
Of course, not all of your time spent on Egypt vacation packages should be spent in the throes of history lessons. Feluccas (traditional sailboats) have been used to traverse the Nile River for thousands of years, and they’re a great way to see the city and surrounding areas from the water. Whether you’re staying in Cairo, Luxor, or Aswan you can choose to add a short felucca ride to your Egypt trip.

From Cairo, Luxor or Aswan, take a sunset cruise in a felucca and see the cities light up as the sun goes down. From Aswan, you can take a longer felucca cruise up the Nile River, or you can choose an all inclusive river cruise on a luxury cruise ship, depending on what you want to do and experience during your Egypt trip.
A cruise on one of the large five-star cruise ships is a magical experience which you will well and truly never forget. These vessels are akin to an all inclusive 5-Star hotel, With all the amenities you could possibly want, Including things like a large outdoor pool, a fitness center, and etc. For a truly wonderful vacation in Egypt, and the chance to discover the gems of the Nile Valley in absolute comfort and style, A five star all inclusive Nile cruise should definitely be on your bucket list of things to do in Egypt.
Enjoy Hidden History in Deir el-Medina
Another great place to visit during your Egypt vacation package is the village where the people who built the temples and pyramids of Ancient Egypt lived, Deir el-Medina. Located on the west bank of the Nile River, “Tucked away in a little valley under the western cliffs,” you’ll find one of Egypt’s best-kept and most fascinating secrets.

If you’re drawn to Egypt vacations because you’ve always wondered how the pyramids were constructed and how the people who built them lived, then you owe it to yourself to explore Deir el-Medina. You’ll love finding out all about the lives of the ordinary Egyptian men and women who created some of history’s most pictured, filmed, and talked-about structures.
The preserved papyrus texts on the lives of the people who lived in Deir el-Medina are incredibly detailed. Not only will you learn about how they went about their daily tasks, but you can also learn about intriguing details like their love affairs and relationships. If you choose to visit this site, be sure to visit the tomb of a man named Peshedu where you will see a mural depicting his afterlife with his wife, cultivating fields as they did in life.

While a lot of the surviving ruins and temples in Egypt are dedicated to the stories of pharaohs and religion, in Deir el-Medina, you can learn the stories of ordinary people. It’s a wonderful addition to Egypt vacation packages for history buffs and people interested in not only the pyramids but also the lives of the people who built them.

FAQ: Egypt Vacations Planning Guide
Egypt is one of the world’s most rewarding vacation destinations and has been welcoming travelers continuously for over 2,500 years.
The country combines the densest concentration of ancient monuments anywhere on Earth (Pyramids of Giza, Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Abu Simbel), world-class Red Sea diving and beach resorts, the iconic Nile River with its UNESCO World Heritage temples, and a warm hospitality culture rooted in centuries of welcoming international visitors.
Egypt vacations offer exceptional value compared to other major destinations, with private tours costing roughly 30 to 50 percent less than equivalent service in Mediterranean Europe. Most travelers find Egypt rewards a return visit, and many of our guests come back two or three times to explore different regions.tailor your itinerary to combine the perfect mix of history, culture, nature, and relaxation.
Most Egypt vacation packages run 8 to 14 days, with our most popular option being a 10-day combined Cairo and Nile cruise itinerary.
An 8-day vacation comfortably covers Cairo (Pyramids, Sphinx, Grand Egyptian Museum, Khan El-Khalili) and a 4-day Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan with Abu Simbel.
A 10 to 12-day vacation adds depth at every site plus optional extras like Alexandria, the White Desert, or a Red Sea coastal stretch. A 14-day vacation accommodates all of the above plus deeper time at sites like Saqqara, Dahshur, and the Pharaonic temples between Luxor and Aswan.
Travelers wanting to combine Egypt with nearby countries like Jordan, Greece, or Morocco typically extend to 16 to 21 days total.
October through April offers Egypt’s ideal vacation conditions with daytime temperatures of 20 to 25°C (68 to 77°F).
December and January are peak season with the most comfortable weather but also the largest crowds and highest prices. Late October through early December and February through April are sweet-spot months with excellent weather and slightly thinner crowds.
May through September regularly exceeds 35°C (95°F) and approaches 40°C (104°F) at midday in southern regions like Aswan and Abu Simbel, requiring early-morning visits with extended midday breaks.
Summer travelers benefit from significantly lower prices and warmer Red Sea water for diving, while winter travelers get the most comfortable temple-touring conditions.
Egypt accommodates a wide range of budgets.
Mid-range Egypt vacation packages with 4-star hotels, a Luxury Nile cruise, internal flights, private Egyptologist guide, and full logistics typically run $200 to $350 USD per person per day. Premium and luxury packages with 5-star properties, dahabiya cruises, and full private logistics run $400 to $800+ USD per person per day.
Single-occupancy supplements apply to solo travelers (typically 30 to 50 percent above per-person rates), and high-season rates (December and January) typically run 15 to 25 percent above off-peak.
Major cost factors include hotel category, length of trip, choice of cruise vessel, inclusions like Abu Simbel as flight vs. road trip, and number of internal flights. Your dedicated Travel Concierge sends a tailored quote within 1 to 12 hours based on your specific dates and preferences.
A standard Egypt Tours Plus vacation package includes accommodation in your chosen hotel category, all internal flights between Egyptian cities, your private Egyptologist guide accompanying you on every land-touring day, your personal driver with modern air-conditioned vehicle, all major site entrance fees, hotel pickups and drop-offs, the Luxury Nile cruise or dahabiya segment with all meals on board, breakfasts at all hotels, and 24/7 in-country support.
Items typically not included: international flights to and from Egypt, visa fees ($25 USD), travel insurance, lunches and dinners outside the cruise, drinks at meals, gratuities, and optional add-ons like hot air balloon rides over Luxor or special-access tomb visits.
Every package is fully customizable, so anything can be added or removed during the planning conversation.
Most of our Egypt vacations include a combination of three or four destinations.
Cairo is essential for the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and the Khan El-Khalili bazaar (typically 2 to 3 days). Luxor is the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes with the Karnak and Luxor temples plus the Valley of the Kings (typically 2 to 3 days).
Aswan offers the High Dam, Philae Temple, the Unfinished Obelisk, and Nubian villages, with day trips to Abu Simbel (typically 1 to 2 days). The Red Sea coast at Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna, or Marsa Alam adds beach and diving time (typically 4 to 7 nights).
Optional additions include Alexandria for Mediterranean Greco-Roman heritage, the White Desert for surreal landscapes, and Siwa Oasis for remote desert culture.
Every Egypt Tours Plus vacation package is fully private. You travel with just your own party, your private Egyptologist guide, and your personal driver.
We never combine clients into shared groups, and our itineraries are built around your specific interests and pace.
The only exception is shore excursions during Luxury Nile Cruise sailings, where shore visits at temples like Kom Ombo and Edfu are organized by the cruise vessel as small group experiences with fellow ship passengers (typically 12 guests per guide). Dahabiya sailings (8 to 16 passengers total) feel essentially private throughout, including shore visits.
Egypt is very safe for tourists, with extensive Tourist Police presence at major attractions, hotels, and transportation hubs. Tourist areas in Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea coast, and the Pyramids see consistent professional security.
Egypt Tours Plus has been arranging private journeys here since 1955 and provides 24/7 in-country support throughout your trip.
The only region currently advised against by most foreign offices is North Sinai, which is not part of standard Egypt vacation itineraries. South Sinai (where Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab sit) is fully open and operates normally.
Standard travel precautions apply: keep copies of your passport, secure valuables in hotel safes, drink bottled water, and use registered taxis or your provided driver rather than unmarked vehicles.
Most international visitors enter Egypt on a tourist visa for $25 USD valid for 30 days, available either online before departure through Egypt’s e-visa system or on arrival at major airports including Cairo, Hurghada, and Sharm El Sheikh.
The e-visa system handles US, UK, EU, Canadian, Australian, and many Latin American passport holders in advance.
Travelers arriving directly at Sharm El Sheikh Airport who plan to stay only in the Sinai resorts (Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba) can request a free Sinai-only permit valid for 15 days, but this excludes mainland Egypt. Most Egypt Tours Plus travelers choose the standard 30-day tourist visa for itinerary flexibility.
Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
Most Egypt vacations include a Nile cruise as the optimal way to see the temple corridor between Luxor and Aswan.
The standard Luxury Nile Cruise runs 4 days and 3 nights with shore visits to Kom Ombo, Edfu, and either Luxor or Aswan temples (depending on direction). 7-night extended cruises are available for those wanting deeper exploration.
Dahabiya cruises (8 to 16 passengers on traditional twin-mast sailing vessels) offer the most intimate Nile experience, sailing the quieter stretch between Luxor or Esna and Aswan with stops at smaller sites larger ships sail past. Lake Nasser cruises depart from Aswan and reach Abu Simbel by water for travelers wanting that distinctive perspective.
We typically recommend including a Nile cruise unless you have less than 7 days total in Egypt or are specifically focused on Cairo and the Red Sea coast.
Egypt vacations are particularly well-suited for families. Private tours adjust pacing to children’s energy levels, and we choose hotels with family-friendly amenities like pools, kid-friendly restaurants, and connecting rooms.
Activities like camel rides at the Pyramids (minimum age usually 8), felucca sailing in Aswan, hot air balloon launches in Luxor (minimum age usually 8), and snorkeling at Red Sea resorts tend to engage children most.
Site visits at Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, and museums work well in shorter 90-minute increments rather than the longer adult focus. Nile cruises are excellent for families with children of all ages thanks to onboard pools, varied dining, and the constantly changing river views.
We’ve built Egypt vacation packages for families with children as young as 4 and as old as teenage years.
Multi-country vacation packages are one of our most-requested customization options.
The most popular pairings are Egypt and Jordan (for Petra and Wadi Rum), Egypt and Dubai (for the modern UAE skyline contrast), Egypt and Greece (for the broader ancient Mediterranean story), and Egypt and Morocco (for North African cultural depth). We also build Egypt and Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and Egypt and Kenya combinations.
Plan at least 5 days in Egypt and 5 or more days for each added country to do justice to both halves. Total trip length for multi-country vacations typically runs 14 to 21 days.
Internal flights between countries are arranged as part of the package.
For October through April, pack layered clothing for evenings (temperatures can drop to 10 to 15°C / 50 to 59°F at night, especially in the desert) plus standard sightseeing essentials.
For May through September, lightweight breathable cotton or linen, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen are non-negotiable.
For all seasons, bring comfortable walking shoes (you’ll do significant walking on uneven stone surfaces at archaeological sites), modest dress for mosque visits (long sleeves and trousers or skirts that cover knees), a refillable water bottle, and a light scarf for women visiting religious sites.
For Red Sea time, add reef-safe sunscreen, multiple swimsuits, and water shoes. Detailed packing lists are part of your final itinerary documentation.
For peak-season travel (October through April, especially December and January), we recommend starting the planning conversation 4 to 6 months ahead to secure preferred 5-star hotels, dahabiya cabins, and Egyptologist guides.
Off-peak summer trips can be planned 2 to 3 months out. For Christmas, New Year, and Easter periods, 6 months ahead is essential.
Once you contact us, your dedicated Travel Concierge sends your first-draft itinerary back within 1 to 12 hours, and most travelers go through 2 to 4 rounds of revisions before finalizing.
We’ve also built complete Egypt vacation packages with as little as 4 to 6 weeks’ notice when needed, though hotel and cruise availability narrows considerably.
