Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo is located at Dubai Mall, the largest shopping mall in the entire world. If you look at any credible list of Dubai tourist attractions, you are likely to see both these names mentioned.

In addition to its 1,200 shops, Dubai Mall is also home to a number of other popular Dubai tourist attractions, but most visitors would agree that the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo is definitely in a league of its own.

Most people would agree that aquariums are typically very nice places to visit, and if that is how you feel about them, then Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo will almost certainly blow you away.

Don’t forget, this is Dubai, and in Dubai nothing gets done in half measures. The city is home to the world’s tallest building; the world’s largest man-made island; the world’s largest mall; one of the world’s best water parks, and yes, one of the world’s best aquariums, the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.

A Brief Overview of Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

Not only is Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo one of the best aquariums in the world, but it is also one of the biggest aquariums of its kind in the world.

The aquarium holds roughly 10 million liters of water, and is home to thousands of aquatic animals and more than 140 different species of marine life, including various types of sharks and rays. In fact, there are more than 300 sharks in the aquarium, including the world’s largest collection of Sand Tiger Sharks.

The aquarium is 51 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and 11 meters in height. Visitors can enjoy several different views of this monstrous aquarium, but none can be compared to the view you are afforded when you walk through the underwater tunnel, with huge sharks and countless other aquatic animals swimming all around you.

If this somewhat surreal experience is not enough for you, then you will be pleased to know that there is even more on offer at Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.

A visit to Dubai Mall is included in nearly all of our existing Egypt and Dubai tours, so a visit to the aquarium is not only unforgettable, but also very convenient.

Unforgettable Aquatic Experiences

Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo is located in Dubai Mall.

Visitors to Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo can choose from a variety of entry tickets that range in price from AED 100 for a Researcher Experience, to AED 300 for the VIP Line Buster Experience. Each of the different tickets entitles the holder to different “Experiences”, all of which are thoroughly enjoyable. However, these basic entry-level tickets don’t include any of the “Aquatic Experiences” which are available.

Aquatic Experiences are essentially for those visitors who want to a far more immersive experience when they visit Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. These more immersive experiences include:

Shark Scooter

Think of this as being your own self-contained miniature submarine that allows you to make your way around inside the aquarium.

Shark Encounter

No longer do you need to be a certified SCUBA diver in order to get up close and personal to the world’s most feared predators.

With the shark encounter, visitors don a special suit and a special helmet, and then they enter the aquarium’s shark-feeding arena in a secure cage, accompanied by an experienced diver who will lure these majestic creatures towards your cage with scraps of fish.

Shark Dive

The Shark Dive Experience is similar to experience discussed above, but the main difference is that with this experience you are in the open water rather than in a cage. However, you are accompanied by an experienced diver who under no circumstances will put you in harm’s way.

The sharks you will approach during your dive are Sand Tiger Sharks, and while they may look fearsome, they will not harm you.

NOTE: You do not have to be a certified SCUBA diver for any of the underwater experiences which are offered at Dubai Mall and Underwater Zoo. However, if you want to do the Shark Dive, you will be required to complete a short course prior to entering the water.

It is also worth noting that availability for the above mentioned experiences is limited to a certain number of people per day. Some of these experiences might not also be available all year round.

King Croc

There is no denying the fact that the aquarium is the star of the show at this venue, but the Underwater Zoo is also really fascinating, and especially one of its inhabitants, King Croc. King Crock is a giant sea crocodile who basically had to be removed from his natural environment, and placed in a protective environment, both for his own sake, and for the sake of others.

King Croc is already the biggest such captive crocodile, and it is believed that he still has a lot of growing to do. At present, he is over 5 meters long and weighs an impressive 750 kilograms. Armed with a total of 60 razor-sharp teeth, the Saltwater Crocodile has the highest bite-force of any living creature, approximately 3,700 psi (pounds per square inch).

Visiting Dubai Aquarium with Egypt Tours Plus

If you book one of our Dubai tour packages or one of our Egypt and Dubai tours, you will almost certainly see Dubai Mall mentioned in the itinerary of your preferred tour. However, it is unlikely that you will see Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo in the itinerary even though it is located at the Dubai Mall.

Dubai Mall tends to appeal to all visitors, but not all visitors want to visit an aquarium. Some visitors may have other plans for when they visit the mall, and for this reason we have chosen not to automatically include Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo in our Middle East tour packages.
